Accident in Lake Starnberg: motor boat runs over swimmers – Munich

Tragic and probably fatal accident in Lake Starnberg: A boat overlooks a man in the water. The large-scale search operation remains unsuccessful, the swimmer could not be recovered so far.

A swimmer probably died in an accident in Lake Starnberg. A motorboat had overlooked the 32-year-old man from Munich on Sunday around 2.45 p.m. in the water and ran over him about 300 meters from the bank near Kempfenhausen. A large-scale search operation remained unsuccessful until late in the evening. Police say the search for the man is set to continue on Monday.

The 32-year-old was traveling with a group in a rubber dinghy and was the only one to go swimming in the lake from the boat when the accident occurred.

About 60 emergency services were involved in the rescue attempt, including eight divers. The surrounding rescue organizations tried to locate the man with a helicopter, an underwater drone, sniffer dogs and a sonar boat, among other things – but in vain.

It could be that currents carried the body away, says Oliver Jauch, spokesman for the Starnberg water rescue service. He therefore assumes that the rescue operation will become a salvage operation.

The water protection police Starnberg has taken over the investigation into the accident. The responsible Munich II public prosecutor ordered the seizure of the motorboat and an accident analysis report.
