Saturday afternoon, around 5 p.m., around fifty detainees from the Baumettes prison in Marseille refused to return to their cell in protest. According to information from Provence, they were protesting against cell phone jammers, against the cold in the cells and the meals in the canteen, which were considered low in meat.

The situation led the regional intervention and security teams (Eris) to intervene in the penitentiary center while some of the prisoners were trying to tear down the gate of a courtyard. The prison staff, meanwhile, is equipped with riot protection.
Eight detainees were placed in a disciplinary unit and two others were transferred following the events. The tension went down just before the kick-off of OM’s match against Monaco. Eris agents were still on site Sunday to secure and maintain order at the site.
