The protests against the abortion ban in Poland flared up again after a pregnant woman died on Tuesday, presumably as a result of a non-terminated pregnancy. The public prosecutor’s office is now investigating.

In Poland, opponents of the strict abortion law have again protested. The trigger was the death of a 37-year-old. The woman was pregnant with twins and is believed to have died of complications from blood poisoning after a fetus died in the womb. An abortion was not possible because of the de facto abortion ban in Poland. The victim’s family complained in a Facebook post that the Polish government had “blood on their hands.” star reported.

In memory of Agnieszka T., demonstrators laid wreaths and lit candles in downtown Warsaw. Marta Lempart, organizer of the protest told Polish media: “Again a person has died because the necessary medical treatment was not provided in time. We will continue to protest so that nobody in this country has to die because of it.”

Abortion ban: Women’s strike calls for occupation of government offices

The “Ogólnopolski Strajk Kobiet” movement is calling on people across the country to occupy offices of the ruling PiS party and set up roadblocks.

In the case of Agnieszka T., the public prosecutor’s office has now started investigations. The medical malpractice department is investigating the three clinics where the pregnant woman was treated.

T.’s sister raises serious allegations against the treating doctors on Facebook. Fearing the strict abortion law, they refused to carry out an abortion in order to save the mother’s life.

Doctors did nothing for a week after the fetus died

Accordingly, T. was pregnant with twins in the first trimester and was hospitalized at the end of December because of abdominal pain and vomiting. On December 23, the medics noticed that one of the fetuses had died, but did not remove it. A week later, the second fetus also died in the womb. After the removal, T. fell ill with blood poisoning. Since then, her health has steadily deteriorated until she passed away on January 25.

The hospital where T. died said: “After the death of the first child on December 23, a wait-and-see attitude was taken to have a chance of saving the second child.” Despite the efforts of the doctors, this was not possible. After the death of the second fetus, the decision was made to terminate the pregnancy.

The case of T. is not the first of its kind and is reminiscent of the fate of a woman from Pszczyna. The 30-year-old pregnant woman also died of sepsis last November after doctors waited for a damaged fetus to die of its own accord in the womb.
