The 65-year-old who entered Aachen’s Luisenhospital with a blank gun and triggered a large-scale operation is out of danger. What caused the woman to behave this way?

The 65-year-old woman who was stopped by police in Aachen’s Luisenhospital with shots fired on Monday evening is not in mortal danger. A spokeswoman for the Aachen public prosecutor’s office said this on Tuesday morning. The spokeswoman initially did not provide any further details. The woman was seriously injured by the shots. She received medical care that night.

According to previous police investigations, the 65-year-old went to the hospital on Monday afternoon with a blank pistol and a dummy explosive belt and threatened employees. After an employee took the pistol from her, she barricaded herself in a patient’s room and threw a pyrotechnic object into the hallway. When she tried to burn an object in the hallway around 10:38 p.m. and didn’t respond to the police, the officers shot the woman, according to the statement, thus ending the dangerous situation.

Aachen: Police end the dangerous situation with shots

It was initially unclear why the woman went to the hospital. According to initial investigations, the police assume that the 65-year-old may have had suicidal intentions. Her apartment in Eschweiler near Aachen burned out on Monday afternoon. The police suspect that she started the fire herself. The investigators found a corresponding letter, it was said.

The 65-year-old must expect criminal proceedings for attempted murder, a police statement said that night. The spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office did not say this morning whether the 65-year-old should be brought before a judge on Tuesday. The agency plans to issue a written notice around noon, she said.
