A3 is free again – SWR Aktuell

After hours of standstill, traffic on the A3 near Neustadt/Wied has been running again since Thursday morning. According to police, around 2,000 people had to spend the night in their vehicles after trucks were parked on the snowy road.

Traffic was backed up on the A3 towards Cologne for around 20 kilometers. The other direction of travel to Frankfurt was also temporarily impassable.
















Firefighters provided people with hot drinks

The fire department had set up a total of nine contact points between Neustadt (Wied) and Bad Honnef. There she offered hot drinks and snacks to drivers who were stuck in traffic. The Neuwied district had set up a crisis team, the Technical Relief Agency (THW) was alerted and had blankets and food ready on the A3.

According to the police, the A3 has been accessible again since 3:50 a.m. A total of ten to 15 trucks were stuck on an incline in the direction of Cologne and had turned sideways on the slippery road. For almost eight hours, the fire department took the vehicles off the road and directed them to the side of the road so that traffic could slowly start moving again in the early hours of the morning.
