There was a serious accident on the A3 motorway today. A truck crashed into several US military vehicles that were parked on the hard shoulder of the freeway. One of the vehicles was loaded with jet fuel.
Spectacular accident on the A3 motorway in Upper Palatinate: While several vehicles from a military convoy were standing on the hard shoulder at the Parsberg junction in the Neumarkt district, a truck crashed into the military vehicles with full force. Particularly explosive: One of the military vehicles was a tank truck that was loaded with 2,500 liters of jet fuel.

If you were lucky, the fuel did not ignite in the serious accident. Nevertheless, several of the vehicles involved caught fire, a police spokesman said on Monday. The tanks of the vehicles would have burned, but the cargo did not. The tires exploded, the spokesman said.
For the soldiers involved, the accident ended relatively lightly. Eight members of the US Army were believed to have come to the hospital for a check-up with smoke poisoning. At noon there was initially no reliable information about the condition of the truck driver.
A3 motorway completely closed for several hours
The A3 motorway was closed in both directions due to the accident. The public was never in danger because the smoke did not move towards populated areas, said the police spokesman.
The unusual circumstances of the accident have not yet been clarified. So it is unclear why the truck from Germany drove into the convoy. The reason why the military convoy stopped on the hard shoulder has not yet been determined either. The police assume an accident and not an attack.
