A young man kills himself with a weapon on the Cheviré bridge

The drama this Tuesday morning in Nantes. Shortly before ten o’clock, the firefighters intervened to rescue a young man who had just tried to end his life on the Cheviré bridge. Aged 25, the desperate man was on “the parapet”, in cardio-respiratory arrest, during the intervention. He could not be revived. He would have used a firearm, indicates the local fire and rescue service (Sdis). An investigation was opened by police.

The event caused traffic difficulties on the outer ring road (north-south direction), already disrupted at the start of the morning due to filter barriers by demonstrators against the pension reform. The Cheviré bridge is one of the busiest structures in the Great West (110,000 vehicles per day on average). It is also a place fatally known for its suicides given its height (52 meters above the Loire).
