A woman killed by her ex-husband who threatened her with death for months

A 58-year-old woman was killed in the Gers by her ex-husband, who hit her twice with his vehicle before fleeing, we learned from the Auch prosecutor’s office on Friday. The murder occurred Thursday around 9:30 p.m. in Préchac-sur-Adour, a village in the Gers. Residents heard screams coming from the street and saw a woman running away, pursued by a vehicle.

“While this woman was trying to take refuge in the courtyard of the dwelling house, the vehicle hit her in front of the gate,” said Auch prosecutor Jacques-Edouard Andrault in a statement. Then, the 73-year-old driver and former companion of the victim fled to the nearby village of Galiax, where he gave himself a rifle shot. Seriously injured in the head, he was hospitalized.

Multiple death threats

The victim was a municipal councilor in the village of Galiax, where she had settled five years ago. Since her separation, she had been staying with friends. An investigation has been opened for murder.

After she filed, on June 18, a handrail at the Marciac gendarmerie for death threats, received between January and June, the gendarmes had seized four rifles and shotguns belonging to the alleged murderer. A measure of hospitalization in psychiatry had been ordered, then lifted. When he left the hospital, the 73-year-old man was taken into police custody for “repeated death threats by a spouse”. He had admitted the facts and received a court summons for November 3.
