A wolf would have been seen and photographed near Rennes

She couldn’t believe her eyes. So she took out her mobile phone and photographed the animal in front of her in a green field. A few somewhat blurry shots taken on the fly before the canine fled. What if it was a wolf? Not impossible. Probable even when you look at the photos taken by this resident of Lassy (Ille-et-Vilaine).

Distributed by West France, the pictures show an imposing animal that could well be a wolf. The images were taken by a resident of the area who saw the animal in a field while driving. “She showed up at the town hall on Tuesday to show us the photos. She couldn’t believe it. She had just seen an animal when she was driving. She stopped to photograph it”, tells 20 minutes the town clerk of Goven. She was the first witness to see these images transmitted to elected officials. “For me, it’s a wolf,” says the town hall employee.

No confirmation from specialists

It was on the land of this town located twenty minutes from Rennes that the canine was observed. To find out if it is a wolf, the municipality contacted specialists from the Breton mammalian group. For now, scientists cannot confirm. “I learned to be wary of photos,” the departmental representative explained to West France.

Unthinkable a few years ago, the presence of a wolf in Ille-et-Vilaine is quite plausible. In May, images shot by a fixed camera established the presence of a male wolf in the Monts d’Arrée (Finistère). In October, several breeders in the area observed the death of a dozen ewes victims of attacks. A first “wolf plan” should quickly be set up in the region.
