A whale trapped in the Rance after crossing the dam

Huge surprise for keen observers of rancid (Ille-et-Vilaine). A humpback whale about 7 meters long was spotted Thursday in the estuary, between Saint-Malo and Dinard. A situation all the more exceptional as the marine mammal had to cross the tidal power plant and its dam. The animal, which was first seen around 10 a.m., appears to be young and healthy, according to the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture.

It is carefully monitored by four animal protection associations, as well as by maritime gendarmes who have come to secure navigation on the river. Several reopenings of the dam took place during the day for the cetacean to return to sea, in vain. Conditions could be more favorable this Friday.

In the meantime, word of mouth having done its work, many curious people had arrived on the banks of the estuary at the end of the afternoon. They should be there again this Friday.
