A whale found dead on a beach

The scene is impressive. A fin whale measuring 10 meters long and weighing 7 tonnes washed up on a beach in Côtes-d’Armor. The cetacean was discovered dead on the beach of La Jospinet, in Lamballe-Armor, reports The Telegram. On Monday, the city services called on a local mussel company to help them put the animal back on the hold.

This Tuesday, the Pélagis observatory is expected on site to take samples from the carcass of the fin whale, continues West France. The Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations will then intervene to carry out the rendering operations.

Last September, two similar events occurred in a few days in Finistère. “Fin whale strandings are observed every year on our coasts and throughout the year with a slightly more marked seasonality in the fall, indicated the Pelagis observatory. Since 2000, nearly 40% of these strandings have been reported on the coasts of Brittany and mainly in Finistère. »
