A very funny and almost autobiographical first film about a return to the countryside

Going green reminds As Bestas by Rodrigo Sorogoyen but much funnier. Yohann Charrin also confronts country people and city dwellers, but his first film about a family who arrives in an isolated house in the heart of the Vercors to spend a vacation which will turn out to be eventful, is much more enjoyable.

“The story is not entirely autobiographical,” the director explains to 20 minutes. Although I am from this region and my daughter Juliette plays in the film, there is a large element of fiction. I don’t quite recognize myself in the character of the father who is clearly more temperamental than me! » This dad trying to impose his authority in the setting of his childhood is stuck between cumbersome squatters and old peasants who are not really welcoming.

Of System D and complicity

“I embroidered on behaviors that I was able to observe,” explains Yoahnn Charrin. I particularly had fun with the newcomers who explained to the locals how to cultivate the land. » The clash between the different protagonists is intelligently exploited by the filmmaker who makes the most of a minimal budget, sublime natural settings and a reduced shooting time around characters portrayed by excellent, little-known actors. The parents Frederick Guillaudet and Alexandra Holzhammer like the young Gabin Jouillerot and Juliette Charrin are very convincing.

“The film was shot with the means at hand in a great atmosphere of complicity,” insists the director. I found it interesting to highlight new performers that I hope to introduce to the public. » We also recognize the comedian Didier Bénureau (Scenes of households) and Jean-François Balmer who came to make friendly appearances. There is incredible energy in this family comedy whose naturalness evokes The hikers by Philippe Harel who helped launch Karin Viard’s career in the late 1990s.

We wish the same destiny to the friendly team of Going green, a surprise full of freshness. Director Yohann Charrin is already working on a thriller for which he hopes to have a more comfortable production.
