A unit specializing in urban violence, deployed by Gérald Darmanin

After the death of a man, shot in the head on Friday evening in Marseille, and the series of settling of accounts against a background of drug trafficking since the beginning of the year, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin announced on Saturday the deployment of the CRS 8 unit, specializing in the fight against urban violence. The first operation took place this weekend in the La Paternelle district.

This unit, made up of 200 men who can be mobilized 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, has specific equipment and police officers trained in “the management of situations of complex violence”. Thus, the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture will be able to deploy it to “carry out operations to combat violence linked to drug trafficking”.

Created in 2021, the CRS 8 had already been deployed in Colmar, in the Haut-Rhin, and in Vénissieux, near Lyon, last August.
