A treetop path is being created in the Nuremberg Zoo – Bavaria

Walk through the forest at eye level with the treetops: A so-called treetop path is currently being built near the zoo in Nuremberg. In the future, visitors to the zoo will be able to walk over a 450 meter long and 2.5 meter wide wooden walkway at a height of up to 20 meters, a spokeswoman said.

The bridge construction, intended as a “climate forest path,” is intended to make the forest a playful experience and also be accessible with strollers and wheelchairs. Once completed, there will be balancing elements on the wooden walkway and the ability to lean out. There will also be a net on the path that you can lie on and see into the depths, said the spokeswoman.

The zoo also wants to use the trail to educate people about climate change. In a “green classroom” on the path, there will be educational opportunities for kindergartens, schools and other educational institutions, particularly on the topics of climate change and the forest ecosystem. The whole thing will be supplemented by enclosures for forest reindeer, owls, adders and amphibians.

Visitors to the zoo are expected to be able to walk the path from the end of July. Originally it was supposed to be completed much earlier. However, numerous requirements in the bird and landscape protection area at Schmausenbuck as well as unfavorable weather conditions delayed the construction work. The Sparkasse Nuremberg Future Foundation will cover the construction costs of 4.1 million euros. The zoo also provides around 750,000 euros from reserves for the animal enclosures.
