Exclusive research, gripping stories, day after day. It starts today daily News-Podcast “11KM”. In each episode, the podcast delves into a relevant topic – with journalists from the ARD.
“11KM” is the new storytelling podcast of daily News, which tells a relevant topic in depth in each episode. The name derives from the eleven kilometers it descends to the deepest measurable point on earth in the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean. That’s what journalists learned from NDR and BR taken as inspiration and a new one daily News-Podcast designed to go in-depth every day.
The podcast delivers daily to the users of the daily News a current research – narrated by a host and journalists from around ARD. The podcast is intended as a “showcase of the ARD” serve and the relevance of daily News with the depth of a storytelling format. Each episode lasts 20 to 30 minutes.
“More depth, more explanation, more background knowledge”
“Of course we expect more depth, more explanation, more background knowledge for the users and the entire audience from ’11KM’,” says Marcus Bornheim, first editor-in-chief of ARD-aktuell. “It’s more than you get in classic daily News– Find out news. We’ve found that many viewers want more background and explanation, and that’s why we’re so hopeful that 11KM will address that need.”
The podcast is produced by BR24 and NDR info. The joint editorial team of “11KM” is based at two locations and works together digitally between Munich and Hamburg.

Victoria Michalczak is a podcast host
The host of the podcast is the journalist Victoria Michalczak, born in 1991. Most recently she worked as a podcast host and author for the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” and Spotify, among others. She studied German and journalism in Düsseldorf, Aberystwyth (Wales) and at the German School of Journalism in Munich.

the daily News-Podcast “11KM” will air Monday through Friday at 6 p.m. for the first six weeks exclusively on the ARD audio library released. BR24 and NDR info also broadcast the podcast episodes at 2:05 p.m. on the radio.
