A tank ruptures on the metro construction site, 1,400 m3 of mud spills

A tide of mud surged behind the palisades of the construction site Metro Line C In Toulouse. The incident, which did not cause any injuries according to Tisséo, occurred on Wednesday around 11:30 a.m. on the site of the future “Montaudran Gare – Piste des Géants” station, very close to the Halle de la Machine. It is one of the immense vertical tanks, which have appeared since the start of this colossal project, which “ruptured”, spilling out the 1,400 m3 of mud it contained.

This muddy tsunami swept away 30 meters of fence and partially blocked access to the Montaudran sports complex, closed until further notice, while a major clean-up was carried out using mechanical excavators.

Several days of investigation and cleanup

“The company is mobilized to ensure as a priority the cleaning of the surroundings of the site and to contain the sludge inside the site installation”, specifies Tisséo this Thursday morning in a press release. “Expertises have been undertaken to analyze the sludge which flowed onto the site and to determine the precise causes of the incident”, continues the public transport organizing authority.

Investigations and clean-up are expected to take “a few days”. And as a precaution, all the tanks – red or blue – on the site will be checked. They are used to store excavated soil, before transporting it to a treatment site.
