A tank of fungicide spills, pollution in the Nantes Sèvre

Professional and leisure fishing has been prohibited since Monday on the Sèvre Nantaise and on the Ligneau river, stipulates a decree from the Loire-Atlantique prefecture. This ban, valid at least until May 4, concerns ten municipalities to the east of the department, from Nantes to Gétigné. It is justified by “pollution” resulting from the “accidental spillage of a fungicide into the rainwater network”.

The accident occurred on Saturday in Gétigné, near Clisson. A farmer’s cistern, filled with 1,700 liters of phytosanitary productspread through the network and then joined the nearby Ligneau.

“The spilled fungicide is a strong biotic contaminant and in particular of fish fauna”, warns the prefectural decree. “The handling and consumption of fish products is likely to cause a health risk,” he continues.
