A site has indeed put on sale various souvenir objects with the effigy of Lola (but this is no longer the case)

Political recuperation has been at the center of debates since the death of young Lola, murdered on Friday October 14 in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. The extreme right, mainly, has a field day to bring up its favorite subjects, security and immigration.

But surfing on such an atrocious subject is not the prerogative of politicians, according to several Internet users who denounce an equally atrocious recovery, but this time for pecuniary purposes. Indeed, many publications claim that Redbubble, an online sales site, would offer objects bearing the image of the young girl on its site with the hashtag #justicepourlola. Lola’s face would be used to sell.

FAKE OFF

This Thursday, no article bearing the face of the young victim was listed on the Redbubble site. But many screenshots of objects (cushions, clocks, coasters) with the infamous face of Lola are circulating on social networks.

Since the images could be tampered with, we have contacted Redbubble to confirm that these items are on sale. The French branch of the company declined to comment on the facts: ” Redbubble is a global marketplace where more than one million independent artists upload artistic creations and sell consumer products printed with their arts. When we discover content that we believe violates our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, we remove it, as was the case for these creations. We encourage all community members to report content to us that they believe violates our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, so that we can investigate. »

The after-sales service confirms having removed the items

A response that looks like a confession but leaves room for doubt. Fortunately, the English-speaking after-sales service was a little more vocal on Twitter. Asked by a user about a seller who offered these objects, Redbubble help confirms their existence by replying that “The nature of this content is not acceptable or in accordance with our community guidelines and has been removed”.

A deletion corroborated by the link that Internet users published to complain, and which no longer exists.

To understand how these objects could have ended up online, you should know that Redbubble is a platform that allows independent artists and creators to offer their work, visual creations, for sale on different media (cups, boxes, cushions, etc.). ) It is then the company that is responsible for editing and manufacturing these objects, then delivering them.

A bot behind the publications?

Also, it is possible to offer many visuals, and their origin or meaning are only rarely verified by the site, as evidenced by the many works or logos, normally protected by copyright, which are offered on the site.

One of the profiles that offered objects bearing the image of Lola still offers other goodies with the faces of Zyed and Bouna.

One of the profiles that offered the face of Lola, also puts on sale objects that bear the faces of Zyed Benna and Bouna Traoré, the two young people who died electrocuted in Clichy-sous-Bois in 2005 after being chased by police .

If the person behind this profile has not yet responded to our requests, it is possible that he himself is not directly behind the proposal for Lola’s face, as explained by a computer engineer contacted by 20 minutes : “Some people create bots (little autonomous software – editor’s note) which analyze social networks and are able to detect the most popular images and expressions in order to then reproduce them on this kind of site. »

A hypothesis that does not make the presence of Lola on this site less shocking.
