A silo at the Lur Berri establishment in Andoins caught fire following an explosion in the handling tower, said the Pyrénées-Atlantiques prefecture on Wednesday afternoon. This fire is linked to “strong heat which has crossed the department in recent days”, specifies the prefecture.
Some 53 firefighters from the Sdis (Departmental Fire and Rescue Service) and two vans went to the scene, supported by two ambulances and a medical team.
Residents evacuated
A security perimeter of 500 meters around the area of the incident has been established, and the inhabitants of this area have been evacuated or are confined. The RD215 is temporarily closed to traffic.
“At this stage, the fire is contained and there is no risk of atmospheric pollution” affirms the prefecture, which nevertheless asks “to avoid the sector in order to facilitate the intervention of the security and rescue forces. »
