More beautiful than just music: An exhibition in Oberhausen shows legendary album covers for “Pink Floyd”, Led Zeppelin, “Genesis” and “10cc” designed by the British design agency Hipgnosis.
The British graphic design agency Hipgnosis hasn’t just designed legendary album covers. She has started working for Pink Floyd, Led ZeppelinPaul McCartney, Yes, genesis, 10cc and many others have shaped the idea of what album covers look like and that they can be viewed as works of art. Aubrey Powell, who founded Hipgnosis in 1967 together with Storm Thorgerson, said in the Ludwiggalerie Oberhausen that he sees it as a “revelation” that his photo designs are now exhibited in major museums: “They are no longer considered pop art, but as real art.”
