A man in his twenties was indicted for “complicity in organized murder” and imprisoned in the investigation into the shooting death of a 23-year-old Chechen in Rennes on March 17, a announced the prosecution this Saturday. The man, suspected of having accompanied the shooter, was also indicted for complicity in attempted murder by an organized gang, acquisition and possession of weapons and association of criminals with a view to committing a crime.

He faces life imprisonment. This suspect was arrested by the judicial police on Tuesday evening “while he was in a vehicle with a minor holding more than 100 g of cocaine, a woman and an 18-month-old baby,” said the Rennes prosecutor, Philippe Astruc, in a press release. “This man, born in 2001, has already been convicted on several occasions for aggravated theft and aggravated violence when he was a minor. He was placed in pre-trial detention, ”added the magistrate.

Already an indictment

A 21-year-old man suspected of being the author of the shots had already been indicted for “organized murder” last week. The facts took place on Wednesday March 17 in broad daylight in the Cleunay district, in Rennes. After “a short verbal altercation”, a man had fired “two shots” in the direction of one of the five young people gathered in front of a Carrefour City. One of the projectiles had hit the victim in the head.

During a “chase”, several more shots were fired, one of which hit the brother of the first victim in the hip. The prosecutor recalls that the city of Rennes experienced ten settlements in 2020 related to drug trafficking (against 2 in 2018 and 4 in 2019), eight of which “have been elucidated, leading to the indictment of 26 persons and the incarceration of 15 of them ”.
