A real thorn in the side. This Wednesday, the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) confirmed that it was analyzing the report of an elected official and the complaint of an anti-corruption association targeting the trip of the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, in October to Polynesia.
No investigation is open at this stage concerning this trip which has been widely criticized by the Parisian opposition.
A report made by a Parisian elected official
The PNF explained that it had “received a first report on these facts from an elected official and has just received, through the Paris prosecutor’s office, a complaint filed by the AC association”.
According to a source close to the file, who confirmed information from the Parisianthis report comes from a Parisian elected official.
Furthermore, the boss of the Parisian Renaissance federation, Sylvain Maillard, also claimed to have reported this trip to the public prosecutor this Wednesday, in an interview with Parisian. “We don’t go on vacation at the expense of the taxpayer when we’re on a business trip,” he said.
A complaint from the AC association!! Anti Corruption
For its part, the AC association!! Anti-Corruption filed a complaint on November 14 against X for embezzlement of public funds. His complaint, consulted by AFP, questions the “stated purpose” of the trip, which was to “check the surfing facilities, as part of the 2024 Olympics” which will be held from July 26 to August 11.
According to the association, the mayor of Paris “took the opportunity to visit her daughter, who lives on an island near Tahiti”.
She was accompanied by two deputies, but also by her spouse, underlines the complaint. “Immediately the question arises of who paid for the trip,” raises the association.
“An accusation without the slightest basis”, according to the Town Hall
According to the City of Paris, the transport costs of the Parisian delegation, made up of six people (three elected officials and three collaborators) amounted to 40,955 euros, and the accommodation and catering costs to 18,545 euros.
The town hall indicated on November 15 that it was “at the disposal of justice to provide all the elements necessary for the manifestation of the truth”, which “will make it possible to demonstrate an accusation without the slightest foundation”.
On November 10, the ethics commission of the City of Paris described the trip as “regular in ethical terms”.
The commission “considered that Anne Hidalgo made a professional trip to New Caledonia and Polynesia financed by the Parisian community from October 16 to 21, 2023 in the morning, as well as a private trip from October 21 in the afternoon to November 5, 2023 taken care of from his personal funds.”
