Those who think they have seen a grey Wolf in Ariège are perhaps right. The State services have in fact just confirmed that one of them was indeed observed on March 16 in
Lapenne, a small town northeast of Pamiers.

These are members of the “wolf monitoring network” who saw the large canine. This information has been confirmed by the French biodiversity office, although no damage from the large predator has been recorded during the same period.
This is not the first time that a wolf has been observed in this department. At the end of 2019, two sheep attacks had made it possible to attest to the presence of this wild beast. A few years earlier, in the neighboring department of Aude, the prefect of Aude had even decided to allow shooting at the wolf which had prowled for months in the department and had slaughtered dozens of animals there.
