Rezé’s elected officials are “angry”. Friday, a public meeting degenerated in this town near Nantes after several participants attacked the municipal team (DVG). The purpose of this meeting was the presentation of a solidarity housing project for migrants from Eastern Europe during which “insults” and “racist and stigmatizing remarks” were heard in the assembly.
Tension rose against the elected officials present who were victims of “death threats”, “pursuits at our homes” and “physical violence”, according to the town hall.

“This deeply shocking situation is unacceptable in our Republic and in our municipality,” said the mayor of Rezé Agnès Bourgeais this Tuesday, who calls for responsibility and collective reaction. It adds to the very long list of similar situations, where elected officials are attacked, intimidated, harassed, personally. We know the consequences better than anyone here in Rezé. »
In February 2022, the former mayor of the town Hervé Neau committed suicide within the walls of the Town Hall. He was the target of malicious emails.
