As early as 1895, the “Winzerer Fähndl” crossbowmen’s guild erected a tent at the Oktoberfest in which shooters could hold championships. Since 1935, the German Crossbow Shooting Championships have been held in the adjacent shooting range. At BMW’s annual crossbow shooting, celebrities can also demonstrate their accuracy.
But not only the well-heeled get their money’s worth in the marquee, the tradition of the Armbrustschützenzelt also includes a free Oktoberfest visit for 200 Munich seniors. On Wednesdays during the Wiesn, traditional costume groups perform and perform, for example, their skills in Schuhplatteln or Goaßlschnalzen.
Landlord Peter Inselkammer’s marquee is one of the largest at the Oktoberfest. Like every marquee at the Wiesn, it has its own tapping ritual. The beer that is drunk there comes from the Paulaner brewery.
