A policeman strips a demonstrator in the middle of the street, an open investigation

The scene took place Thursday evening, on the sidelines of a demonstration in Lyon and was directly broadcast on Twitter. On the images, we see a man tackled to the ground by a member of the police, at night in the middle of the street. The guy ends up partially naked, his pants down.

Following this video, the Lyon public prosecutor’s office decided to open an investigation for violence without ITT by a person holding public authority. It was entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN, “police of the police”).

A degraded municipal police station

That evening, up to 3,000 demonstrators had gathered “against police violence” after what had happened in Deux-Sèvres against the mega-basins of Sainte-Soline. In the evening, a municipal police station was degraded, its windows broken, glass dumpsters were overturned and several garbage can fires were lit. Three people were arrested after this mobilization.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced in an interview with Sunday newspaper that “36 judicial inquiries” had been opened by the IGPN and two by the IGGN (the equivalent for the gendarmes) since the start of the mobilization against the pension reform.
