A pedestrian was fatally mowed down in the 19th arrondissement of Paris on the night of Saturday September 2 to Sunday September 3 by a motorist who was fleeing a police check, learned franceinfo from a police source, confirming information from BFMTV.

Around 3:30 a.m., “a local police team decided to carry out a traffic check on a driver” from BMW “having dangerous behavior while driving” rue Edouard Vaillant in Pantin. The latter refused to comply according to this source, and took the direction of Paris. He has “used many arteries in the 19th arrondissement” including rue de Flandres and quai de la Charente. The motorist managed to outrun the police at the exit of the Villette tunnel “at the inner device”according to another police source.

Investigation for aggravated manslaughter

Then, the police were alerted that a pedestrian had been knocked down at 8 Macdonald Boulevard. Despite the intervention of the emergency services, the 30-year-old man died around 4:15 a.m. Witnesses saw the escapee’s car hit the victim. The vehicle was found parked on rue Frédéric Mourlon, in the 19th arrondissement “but empty of any occupant and with a trace of impact on the front”. The driver fled, a police source told franceinfo.
