Elisabeth Borne denounces the “revolting ambiguities” of part of the left and recalls that “Israel has the right to security”
Elisabeth Borne, the Prime Minister, denounced on Sunday in Bordeaux the attitude of part of the left on the conflict in Israel, in an allusion to La France insoumise, accused since Saturday of finding justifications for the Hamas attack. “On the far left, verbal violence is accepted, the search for chaos claimed”declared the Prime Minister in front of the activists of the presidential party, Renaissance, also castigating “the revolting ambiguities in the face of the drama of these last hours”.
Beyond this specific subject of the Middle East, the head of government also denounced in her speech the ” methods “ from the far right: “designate scapegoats, engage in all-out demagoguery, and pit the French against each other”. For her, “the two extremes have this in common: they do not seek cohesion, but confrontation. They do not seek appeasement, but conflagration”. “Faced with this, we have a historic responsibility”underlined Elisabeth Borne, arguing, “faced with the return of wars”that Europe “brings stability” And ” the peace “.
“Israel has the right to security”she recalled on BFM. “We cannot put Hamas, recognized as a terrorist organization by the EU, back to back with a democratic state like Israel. These comments are shocking and inappropriate.” She added: “The positions of La France insoumise are well known, with a lot of ambiguity, with anti-Zionism, so, in fact, it is sometimes also a way of masking a kind of anti-Semitism.” Asked to know if “Anti-Zionism would be a sort of false nose for anti-Semitism in certain political groups”she replied that, “in some, in certain formations, yes”.
