A motorist in prison for mowing down two teenage girls on a pedestrian crossing in Carhaix

It was a quiet late summer Saturday in Carhaix. At 2:45 p.m. on August 26, a violent accident took a chill in the small town of Finistère when two teenage girls were hit by a motorist. The two young girls were crossing quietly on a pedestrian crossing when they were hit by a man driving a stolen car without a driver’s license. Aged 50, the respondent was immediately taken care of by the gendarmes, while the two victims were rushed to the hospital.

Seriously injured, the 15-year-old girls are now in stable condition. Their vital prognosis is not engaged. As for the driver accused of having mowed them down, he was indicted and remanded in custody, said Brest public prosecutor Camille Miansoni.

The man who was driving on Saturday had already been sentenced multiple times by the courts. In police custody, he denied having stolen the Renault in which he was traveling “despite the detailed declarations of the owner of the vehicle and the testimonies collected”, reports the prosecutor. The driver will be summoned before the criminal court on October 27 according to the delayed appearance procedure.

Accused of driving without a license and of having clearly violated a safety obligation by not slowing down when approaching the pedestrian crossing, the defendant faces a five-year prison sentence and a fine of 75,000 euros.
