Huge rush to the 9 euro tickets for local public transport (valid June/July/August)!
Since the start of sales on Monday, Deutsche Bahn has already sold more than a million tickets. The cheap tickets are valid throughout Germany on all buses and trains (exception: long-distance trains).
The highest police unions now fear security chaos because of the gigantic demands for the cheap tickets, and want to have overcrowded trains cleared by the federal police if necessary!
Rainer Wendt (65), Federal Chairman of the German Police Union (DPolG), when asked by BILD: “If the transport companies are overwhelmed by the crowds, the Federal Police must intervene.”
His deputy Manuel Ostermann says: “From a security point of view, the 9-euro ticket can be a disaster.”
Already at the weekend, many people showed great interest in the heavily discounted monthly ticket. It is intended to relieve consumers of the costs that are currently rising across the board.
Last Friday, the Federal Council cleared the way for the ticket, which is part of the federal government’s relief measures for consumers.
The ticket is also intended to convince more people of the more climate-friendly bus and train travel – but also highlights the general condition of local public transport and the financing of public transport.
