A migrant was found dead on Saturday in the Bourbourg canal in Loon-Plage (North), near a refugee camp, we learned this Sunday from the Dunkirk public prosecutor’s office. The man “was brought back to the bank by migrants who called the emergency services,” said this source, adding that the nationality and age of the deceased were currently unknown.
An investigation into the causes of death has been opened and entrusted to the Dunkirk police station, and an autopsy must take place in the coming days, added the prosecution.
Catholic Relief calls on the Ministry of the Interior
“Two men died yesterday on the Franco-British border,” Juliette Delaplace, project manager at Secours catholique, said on the social network X (formerly Twitter), in reference to this death and that of a man on Saturday, hit by a train, near a camp in Calais. However, the Boulogne-sur-Mer public prosecutor’s office does not confirm at this stage that it is a migrant.
Juliette Delaplace also calls on the prefecture and the Ministry of the Interior: “It is high time to recognize the dangerousness of the policy you are leading and to change it! Unless you admit that these deaths, which were lives, are worth nothing in your eyes.”
