A man wanted after the murder of a woman in the middle of the street this Sunday

A suspect, whose visual profile seems to correspond to a man, is actively sought by the police after the murder of a 47-year-old woman this Sunday morning in Nantes. The victim, who was going to a bus stop, was attacked by an individual, before succumbing to his injuries, around 6:30 a.m., boulevard Jean-Moulin, in the lower Bellevue district.

“She had nearly a dozen sharp wounds on her upper body,” reports Renaud Gaudeul, public prosecutor of Nantes. This French mother, maintenance worker by profession, “had just left her home located in the immediate vicinity and was going to work”, indicates Renaud Gaudeul.

“Calls for help”

Three witnesses told investigators they saw the attack from a distance. “They heard cries for help,” said the prosecutor. The firefighters arrived quickly on the spot but the 40-year-old unfortunately could not be revived. The suspect fled without any apparent vehicle intervention. The murder weapon has not yet been found.

The murder aroused great emotion in the neighborhood where a large part of the victim’s family resides. She had four adult children. She had lived alone for several years.

An autopsy is to take place on Monday to determine the exact causes of death. The Nantes prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation by the chief intentional homicide. “We are studying all avenues”, adds the public prosecutor. The judicial police have taken over the case.
