A man suspected of having tried to set fire to the sub-prefecture arrested

He would have acted twice, on April 1 and 2. Suspected of having tried to set fire to the sub-prefecture of Brest (Finistère), a 25-year-old man was arrested by the Rennes judicial police on April 25. Unemployed, this man unknown to the judicial services was placed in police custody before being indicted. He has been remanded in custody pending trial, Brest public prosecutor Camille Miansoni announced.

Investigators suspect he placed an incendiary device in front of the state building. The object had been discovered “in the process of burning in a hedge”, explained the public prosecutor. A bag containing in particular rivets, a lighter and cans had been discovered.

A “ball of fire” extinguished by a passerby

It was witnesses who had given the alert, evoking “a ball of fire”, before a passerby extinguished the first flames. Another homemade device was discovered on April 2 in the morning. These events did not cause any material damage or physical injury. The suspect will appear on June 26 before the Brest Criminal Court. The motives for his alleged actions are unknown at this time.
