a man jumps from the Eiffel Tower in a parachute before being arrested

A base jumper climbed the Eiffel Tower very early this morning before parachuting from the top of the building. He was arrested.

This Thursday, at 5:40 a.m., a man climbed the east pillar of the Eiffel Tower before parachuting from the top of the monument shortly before 7 a.m., BFMTV learned from police sources.

He landed on the ground of the Émile Antoine stadium before being arrested. A complaint was also filed by the operating company for endangering the lives of others and trespassing. However, no degradation was observed.

The opening of the monument delayed

When the man entered the site, he was detected “in less than a minute by the security service” of the Eiffel Tower operating company (Sete), assures the latter in a press release, confirming a information ofNews17.

Despite attempts by the intervention brigade to intercept him in the structure, the man jumped in a base-jump (parachute jump from a high fixed point). He was taken to the police station for endangering the lives of others, AFP said.

La Sete says he deplores “this type of irresponsible action which endangers people working on or under the structure” frequented by 5.9 million visitors in 2022. As a result, the opening of the monument has been “slightly” delayed this Thursday morning.

It is a new day of disruption in the reception of tourists after two evacuations on August 12 caused by two false bomb threats. An investigation had been opened, carried out at the national center for the fight against online hatred.

On Monday, two alcoholic American tourists were found asleep in the building, after a night spent under the stars in the famous monument.
