A man convicted of the murder of his partner who wanted to leave him

He immediately admitted the facts. As when he called the police on October 29, 2020 to confess to his crime, this man aged around thirty pleaded guilty to the murder of his partner before the Maine-et-Loire Assize Court. This man described as “discreet”, always “very calm” and who had a “happy” childhood was sentenced to twenty years of criminal imprisonment with a security period of ten years and socio-judicial monitoring for eight years.

That day in October 2020, he strangled his partner to death after the latter announced her desire to leave him. On site, emergency services noted the death of the victim, Maëlys 26 years old, lying on the marital bed at the home located in Angers, the body hidden under a duvet. The couple formed “love at first sight” according to witnesses, before falling apart after the birth of their second child and successive confinements. “There was certain psychological violence, I also think there was physical violence. The context of confinement accelerated things and worsened the situation,” said the Advocate General.

“Everything mixed together, fatigue, feelings, anger”

The accused, who said he recognized “the entirety of the facts” from the opening of the proceedings, explained that his partner “was in her bubble, she was playing video games”. “It was difficult to cope alone,” he continued, admitting to having deceived the young woman twice, to “make her react”. His partner’s exchanges with an online player led him to monitor her and search her phone. On the day of the incident, she told him she wanted to leave. “I got on top of her, straddled her and strangled her. Everything mixed together, fatigue, feelings, anger,” confessed the accused, in tears.
