A majority of French people approve of the measures, according to a poll

The majority of French people approve of the measures announced Monday by Emmanuel Macron against the epidemic resumption, from compulsory vaccination for certain professions to the health pass for cafes, restaurants and shopping centers, according to an Elabe poll, published on Tuesday.

A large majority of French people (76%) approve of the Head of State’s decision to make vaccination compulsory for nursing staff and other professions, with penalties, according to this study for BFMTV.

Measures “adapted” to the situation

The extension of the health pass (complete vaccination or recent negative test) also receives a majority of approvals, but which varies according to the places concerned. Very strong for access to travel by plane, train and bus (76%) and to hospitals and retirement homes (70%), it is less so for access to places of leisure and culture bringing together more than 50 people (66%) and access to cafes, restaurants and shopping centers (58%). Still according to the survey, the French also approve (63%) the end of free PCR tests, except medical prescription, from the fall.

A smaller majority (54%) of French people judge the announced measures “adapted to the situation”, the rest judging them rather too strict (31%) than not enough (15%). Acceptance of the vaccine has increased by 5 points in one week and rallies 79%: 65% of French people say they have already received at least one dose and 14% intend to get vaccinated in the coming months.

Emmanuel Macron convincing

Confidence in the executive to effectively fight the epidemic remains in the minority (44%) but has continued to increase since the spring: 3 points more than in May and 13 more than at the end of March. On the economic and social side, the French approved 60% of the application from October 1 of the disputed unemployment insurance reform, certain provisions of which were suspended by the Council of State.

On the other hand, they are more likely (43%) to oppose a pension reform than to be in favor (36%) when the epidemic will be “under control”, a condition laid down by the head of state on Monday. They are 20% to consider that it should be done “without delay”. A narrow majority of French people (52%) who have seen or heard of Emmanuel Macron’s speech believe that it was convincing.

* The survey was carried out Monday evening and Tuesday online, on a sample of 1,006 people representative of the French adult population and according to the quota method.
