A Lyon 2 university campus blocked when returning from vacation

Forty students blocked a campus of the Lumière Lyon 2 University in Bron on Monday morning, where classes were canceled for the day, faculty officials said. The students began their action at 6:30 a.m. on the Porte des Alpes campus, blocking access to the faculty with garbage cans, barriers and palisades, to protest in particular against the pension reform and to demand meals at one euro for all students, measure which was rejected by the National Assembly on February 9.

“We closed the campus because the reception conditions are not met, in particular security and firefighter access”, indicated Sandrine Barberino, in charge of press relations at the University Lumière Lyon 2.

Autonomous group

“We wanted to mark this day back to college [après les vacances d’hiver] blocking off the campus and taking the time to chat with other students. […] We are neither a collective nor a union, rather an autonomous group,” explains Noa, 19. Tags have flowered on the walls of the campus claiming “more means for the universities”, meals at one euro or even a fairer pension reform for women.

Alice Petitot, 18, in the first year of a political science degree, discovered the blockage when she arrived on campus. She regrets missing a “quite important” lesson but says she understands the movement: “We know that it is only through this type of action that things can change. »

Amina Salah, 21, in the second year of a bachelor’s degree in education and who comes by train from La Verpillière (Isère), learned almost at her destination of the cancellation of classes. “We were only notified at 7:20 this morning” by an email from the university. “Who checks their emails at this hour? “laments the young woman.

The protesters said they have not yet made a decision on what to do with their movement.
