A lifeless body with “traces of violence” found after the disappearance of a student from Lille

Confirmation is still awaited. This Tuesday morning, a lifeless body was discovered near Signy-l’Abbaye in the Ardennes. According to the Charleville-Mézières public prosecutor, the body “could be” that of Valentin Gomes, a 23-year-old student missing after a weekend of integration. The prosecution opened an investigation for “violence resulting in death” after the discovery of “possible traces of violence on the body,” said the prosecutor of Charleville-Mézières, Laurent de Caigny.

Originally from the Rennes region and 23 years old, Valentin Gomes was a student at Polytech Lille. He was participating in an integration weekend at a campsite in Signy-l’Abbaye. His disappearance was reported overnight from Saturday to Sunday.

Opening of a criminal criminal investigation

“In view of this singular discovery by the place, the very first observations, possible traces of violence on the body subject to the forensic findings to come, I ordered the opening of a criminal criminal investigation, under the qualification voluntary violence resulting in death without intention of giving it ”, continues the prosecutor.

The investigation was entrusted to the research section of the Reims gendarmerie, with the support of the departmental gendarmerie, “already mobilized on the worrying disappearance of the student”, he added, specifying “that” no other information ”could be communicated at this stage.
