A lake becomes a vast “stony expanse” with a few patches of water

The Météo Côte d’Azur association shared impressive photos on Monday on these social networks. Witnesses to the drought that is still raging in the Alpes-Maritimes department. On these “sad photos”, the artificial lake of Broc, to the northwest of Nice, now appears as “a vast stony expanse, where a few rare patches of water still remain here and there”. A situation following a “lack of precipitation since last winter and after a particularly hot summer”.

“There is nothing left of the Lac du Broc,” warns the association. At the beginning of September, the Alpes-Maritimes Fishing Federation had already had oxygenators installed in the remaining main pocket of water to save the fish that had concentrated there.

On September 19, the prefecture announced its decision to extend, at least until October 15, its measures to deal with the drought in the Alpes-Maritimes department, while the rainfall is “still largely in deficit”. With levels at -35% compared to the average observed in September.
