Once again, a mountain drama mourns the Pyrenees. A hiker had a fatal fall on Sunday at the beginning of the afternoon above the lake of Portillon in Haute-Garonne, we learned from the PGHM of Bagnères-de-Luchon.
The victim “unscrewed about 300 meters,” said the High Mountain gendarmerie platoon. According to the gendarmes, it is a man between “30 and 40 years” who was not yet identified Sunday evening.
Probably a path error
The hiker who was “properly equipped for the season” could have taken the wrong route, they added. The rescuers of Bagnères-de-Luchon, assisted by their colleagues from the PGHM of Pierrefitte Nestalas, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, had to call on a helicopter from the air detachment of Tarbes (DAG) to go and search for the body of the hiker.
