A hen is named after a feminist – Panorama

Recently we read that it is not at all a good thing for international feminism when feminists publicly snub feminists. That’s correct! Unfortunately, it is not easy to clarify at this point how feminist the owners of the hen are, which was just called “Bug” but has now been renamed “Amelia” (after Amelia Earhart). Amelia Earhart (1897-1937), of course, was a world-renowned feminist who is still very respected today.

How did the renaming come about? The hen, who was just called “Bug”, had hopped on a pickup truck in the US state of Vermont and disappeared from her farm. 20 kilometers away she was according to a local TV station, discovered by a woman named Lo Fasano, who clarified the origin of the animal via Facebook and initiated its return. Now the hen is back home and, as I said, was named after Amelia Earhart.

Earhart was the first woman to fly non-stop across the Atlantic, first as a passenger and later as a pilot. A great woman! Brave, committed, left-wing, pacifist, feminist and incredibly cool. Countless movies, songs, even Lego and Barbie dolls have been named after her. Which brings us to the question of whether Lego and Barbie figures and hens from Vermont are really suitable namesakes for honoring great representatives of international feminism, or whether (certainly honorable) efforts such as those of the earlier Germans are not Minister of Justice Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger to call her dachshund “Dr. Martin Luther” should generally be rejected.

The answer of the feminist in us: yes. Such a thing is to be rejected. At least for stupid dachshunds.
