The drop in temperature prompted the prefecture of Loire-Atlantique to trigger the “Extreme cold” plan on Thursday, at least until Tuesday. One of the main measures of the system concerns the provision of a gymnasium to shelter homeless people. This is the Joël-Paon gymnasium, located in the Hauts-Pavés district of Nantes. Managed by the rescuers of the Civil protection, the municipal equipment welcomes single people or couples, with or without animals. It has a capacity of 35 seats.
“People are directed to this system by the 115 with a reinforcement of the social Samu marauding in the field. The gymnasium is closed during the day except on weekends when it operates 24 hours a day, ”indicates the city of Nantes.
Emergency accommodation places were also opened on Tuesday evening at the Gustave-Roch home for single people or couples.
