At a time when many cities in France are once again canceling their July 14 fireworks display for health reasons, the ecological town hall of Bordeaux persists and signs with the announcement of a fireworks display of a new kind, in in line with environmental concerns.
“It was obvious that we had to maintain it, we all want to get together around a festive moment after all the restrictions that we have known, explained this Friday Charlee Da Tos, the city councilor in charge of the festivities. But the idea was to go further in terms of eco-responsibility, to offer something more virtuous ”.
“A test laboratory”
To fire from a barge floating on the Garonne this more environmentally friendly and “less expensive” fireworks display, renamed “Feux de joie”, the city of Gironde called on the French specialist in the genre, the company Ruggieri. “It was a challenge,” admits David Proteau, the artistic director of the historic house of pyrotechnics, which will test this new concept for the first time. “Bordeaux, it is not far from being a test laboratory, we will see if other cities share the same sensitivity”, he adds, sparing the suspense.
Concretely, the company has agreed to do away with plastic and aluminum foil and to use only cardboard in Bordeaux for containers and packaging for fires which, inevitably, will fall back into the Garonne. Ruggieri also banned lead and chlorate, preferring a new recipe based on “cleaner molecules”.
