A green algae alert on two beaches

They are back. The health alert threshold concerning the presence of green algae was triggered at the end of last week on two beaches facing the bay of Saint-Brieuc, in the town of Hillion, near Lamballe (Côtes-d’Armor). The device, which consisted of a ban on the coast to walkers, was lifted on Monday on the beach of Saint-Guimond, announces the Prefecture of Côtes-d’Armor.

The latest measurements of hydrogen sulphide concentrations in the air emanating from the putrefaction of algae were indeed deemed reassuring on this beach. On the other hand, the ban is maintained for another beach of Hillion, that of the Hostellerie, the values of the toxic gas in the air being considered still too important for health. Many strandings of green algae have been observed for several days in the bay of Saint-Brieuc.
