A gendarme seriously injured after a refusal to comply

A gendarme was seriously injured late Wednesday afternoon in Pugnac (Gironde) after being hit by a motorist following a refusal to comply. The soldiers signaled to the individual to stop, and he allegedly accelerated and ran into the police.

“He was dragged for several tens of meters, suffered from broken legs and skin abrasions on his body,” said the gendarmes. “He was hospitalized but his days are not in danger, his vital prognosis is not engaged,” added the same source.

Support from the Minister of the Interior

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin quickly gave his support to the soldier.

The fugitive’s vehicle was found shortly thereafter. The individual, however, fled. A helicopter and staff on the ground, made up of a canine team, have been deployed, detailed the gendarmerie.

The last death of a gendarme during a refusal to comply dates back to July 2020 in Lot-et-Garonne.
