A new soldier down. Sergeant Nicolas Mazier of the air paratrooper commando No. 10 was killed Monday in Iraq, according to a press release from the Elysée. His unit “supported an Iraqi unit in an anti-terrorist operation”, specifies the presidential palace which shares the “very strong emotion” of the President of the Republic. “He bows with deep respect before the sacrifice of this soldier, fallen in combat in the accomplishment of his mission”, continues the text. He is the third soldier killed in Iraq in August.
Emmanuel Macron, in his capacity as President, sends to the soldier’s family and his loved ones “his most sincere condolences and assures them of the Nation’s solidarity in these painful circumstances. “He also expresses his support for the men and women of his unit and in particular for Sergeant Mazier’s comrades injured at his side,” the statement added.
“The President of the Republic wishes to salute the courage of the French soldiers engaged in Iraq. It reaffirms France’s determination in its fight against terrorism alongside Iraq”.
