A fire devastates 80 ha of scrubland

Part of the Ardèche is on fire, but fortunately without causing any casualties. A fire, about to be fixed at the end of the evening, covered 80 ha of scrubland on Tuesday in the south of the department, in an uninhabited area, said the prefecture.

The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. in the town of St-Alban-Auriolles, in an area difficult to access due to the presence of many small low walls. It took the intervention of foresters-sappers to open two tracks allowing firefighters to approach the head of the fire.

A campsite nearby

A total of 120 men, including 30 from the Gard as reinforcements, were mobilized in this operation. Air assets were also deployed, including four Canadair, a water bomber helicopter and a Dash 8.

A campsite is located on the edge of the start of the fire but no evacuation was necessary due to the opposite direction taken by the flames. The origin of the incident remains undetermined, according to the prefecture.
