a drug trafficking network dismantled between Bordeaux and Lyon

It’s a national sweep. Eight people were imprisoned on Saturday in Bordeaux after the dismantling last week in Lyon of a network of drug traffickers, announced Monday the police in Bordeaux, at the origin of the investigation.

Last Monday, twelve people were arrested in the Lyon region as part of an investigation carried out by the specialized interregional jurisdiction (JIRS) of Bordeaux and with the help of the Sûreté départementale du Rhône.

Cannabis, weapons and luxury goods

In total, nearly 600 kilos of cannabis resin, 40 kilos of herbal cannabis, 5 kilos of cocaine, several weapons including two assault rifles, 170,000 euros in cash and various luxury goods, including Rolex watches, were was seized by the police.

Eight individuals, aged between 25 and 35, were presented on Saturday to an investigating magistrate in Bordeaux, and placed in pre-trial detention. “It’s a very good deal. We have a nationwide network that supplied narcotics to several major cities in France,” explained Commissioner General Emmanuel Morin, Departmental Director of Public Security in Gironde.

A first arrest in 2020

At the origin of the investigation, the arrest during the summer of 2020 of a “couple of retirees who were bringing drugs from Spain to Bordeaux in a cache fitted out in their vehicle”, indicated the DDSP. from the Gironde. Six other people were also arrested, as well as 450,000 euros in cash seized.

The investigators then traced the thread of the network, and arrested in May 2021 “several other individuals from the Bordeaux region” and “seized 950 kilos of cannabis resin, and nearly 200,000 euros”. Two conveyors of narcotics between Bordeaux and Lyon had also been identified, which had made it possible to identify presumed network heads operating in Lyon. The investigation is still ongoing to explore possible other ramifications, and continues on letters rogatory.
