a cyberattack targets the André-Mignot hospital, the emergencies almost closed

The establishment, victim of a computer attack since this Saturday, 9 p.m., cut its computer system as a precaution.

A cyberattack affects the André-Mignot hospital, of the Versailles hospital center. Located in Chesnay-Rocquencourt, in the Yvelines, the establishment has been the victim of a computer attack since this Saturday, 9 p.m., reveals France info. As a precaution, the computer system was shut down.

Emergency department almost closed

A crisis unit, in conjunction with the authorities, was opened this Sunday after the appearance overnight of a skull and a ransom demand on computer screens.

Since then, the hospital has been working without computer tools, which requires the transfer of patients, especially the most fragile. Three patients have been transferred to hospitals in Île-de-France while six others should follow, specifies Richard Delepierre, mayor of Chesnay-Rocquencourt and co-president of the supervisory board of the Versailles hospital center to BFMTV.

Some transfers will be made in the provinces, the Ile-de-France establishments being already overloaded. The reception capacity of maternity and neonatology services is also reduced.

“The emergency service is almost closed”, continued Richard Delepierre, and this will still be the case tomorrow.

The hospital center will postpone non-urgent operations, which require advanced technology and do not expect to return to normal for several weeks.

Patients redirected by the Samu

“The hospital has put itself in data protection mode and is maintaining its operation with the caution that is required for the moment”, specifies François Braun, Minister of Health, guest on BFMTV this Sunday. “The attack was detected early,” he insists.

“The Samu is not reached and redirects patients to other services until we can make a more precise diagnosis”, adds the member of the government.

The Minister on the spot

“Shame on the criminals who attack the most fragile”, reacted Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister Delegate in charge of the Digital Transition and Telecommunications, former deputy for the second district of Yvelines.

The Minister went there at midday and praised the responsiveness of the hospital teams.

“It’s a procedure that resembles that which was experienced in Corbeil-Essonnes”, specifies the minister. Indeed, last August, a large-scale cyberattack hit the Center Hospitalier Sud Francilien.

A ransom of 10 million dollars had been demanded from the Corbeil-Essonnes hospital by the hackers who had disseminated the personal data of certain patients on the dark web.
