A curfew imposed on those under 16

No New Year for those under 16. This is what the Bas-Rhin prefecture indicated in a press release “after consultation” with the mayors of several towns in the Strasbourg metropolitan area. Published this Monday, the decree stipulates “that the circulation and parking on the public highway of minors under 16 years unaccompanied by one of their parents or a representative of parental authority are prohibited on the night of December 31, 2021 from 10 pm until January 1, 2022 at 6 am ”.

To justify her decision, in addition to “the current health context”, the prefect Josiane Chevalier highlights “the phenomena of violence and urban degradation regularly observed in the metropolitan area of Strasbourg on New Year’s Eve since 1997”.

The press release also specifies that “minors in breach of this decision may be escorted to their homes by the police, who will immediately inform the public prosecutor of all the facts likely to give rise to the initiation of proceedings as well as the referral to the juvenile judge ”.
